Two more charts are added to the Stock Analyzer page – S&P 500 Index and S&P Sector chart for a stock you are analyzing. For example, if you are analyzing AAPL stock, you will see a chart for S&P Technology Sector (XLK).
Those charts should give investor a better sense of the current Market Direction (S&P 500 index) and direction of a particular sector. Because S&P Index and its sectors track US market, new charts are available for US stocks only.

Stock Analyzer is handling financial data for ADRs properly
We have found an issue that is specific to ADRs (American Depository Receipts). The problem is discovered pieces of financial data was presented in different currencies, which was confusing. For example, price was shown in USD, because this is a security traded on US market, however, data in financial statements could be presented in a local currency.
This issue has been fixed and you shall see all data for ADRs in a "base currency", which is USD for US securities.

Two new features have been released today:
1. Market Calendar.
We added a list of all upcoming earning releases that stock2own aware of. It is filtered by stocks in your watch lists and you can see it in "My Home" page. Also, a complete list of upcoming events for the next 2 weeks is available in the "Market / Calendar" section.
2. Stock Analyzer has a second "fluid" mode now. It is designed for relatively large screens (mostly for desktop users) and shows most important information about analyzed stock in the left section, while allowing you to view detailed info for any section in the center of the screen. One of the main features is a bar chart – table view for financial statements which helps to visualize data dynamics.

We have been working on the new version of stock2own.com for quite a long time and finally it is ready! Our goal is to make it cleaner, smarter and to optimize data presentation so it will take only few seconds for you to understand any stock.
The major idea – ability to analyze stocks and calculate value price – remain the same, but there are a lot of changes in the way it look, in the way we collect and analyze data. Below are just a few major points for you to consider.
We used to collect and analyze very few major financial ratios, like EPS, Free Cash Flow and Equity. From now on, stock2own analyzes many more items from annual and quarterly financial statements, which allows us to add a bunch of financial ratios to Stock Analyzer results. Along with Growth Grades, you can find there Quick and Current Ratios, PEG and PEGY and more. Don't go away if you do not know how to use some of them – the explanation as well as short interpretation of each ratio is right there, on your fingertips.
We extended the Value Price section with Graham Number. One of the best ways to analyze data is to analyze it from different angles and now you can compare numbers calculated using different methods. And this is just a beginning, we are working on a new methods.
Price Chart is fully converted to an interactive chart, which allows you to see exact numbers for any given day. More than that, you can set a scale for price, RSI and MACD individually.
New functionality came with a new look, which is mobile friendly! Everything – Stock Analyzer, Watch Lists, Forum posts and even Stock Screener results can be accessed from a smart phone or a portable computer.

Calculations for a Debt Ratio were improved. DJ brought a great point – if a company's LT Debt was changed in a recent quarter, we will not notice the change in Debt Ratio until the next annual statement. This concern was addressed and from now on stock2own calculates Debt/FCF Ratio as following: we get LT Debt from the latest quarterly statements and use TTM (Trailing Twelve Month) value as a Free Cash Flow.
Don't get confused, check quarterly statements section first!

Pawan discovered that quarterly data for Cash from Operating Activities, Capital Expenditures and Free Cash Flow reported as cumulative numbers on msn web site. We did a thorough testing, compared it with yahoo.finance and other web sites and changed the logic. From now on, all those three categories are shown as a Quarterly numbers on stock2own (including quarterly data charts).
Don't be surprised to see new data in a quarterly statements.

Thanks to Jeff, we have discovered that weekly chart was incorrect. We spent some time trying to fix it, but for now we just disabled weekly chart and even when 1 year date range selected, daily chart is shown.

We found that Bull/Bear indicators for stocks and industries were inconsistent and confusing: we used to give stock a bull sign if the price is above MA150, but industry and sector could get a bull sign only when both ratios are greater than 1, in other words it required price to be above MA150 and also MA150 to be above MA200...
We have changed the logic and from now on you can see a bull sign if the Price is above MA150 for both stock and industry.
Do not be scared to see more bull signs now - all numbers are the same! The number of bull signs is larger now because we removed requirement for MA150 to be above MA200. Please, pay attention to both ratios though, we think both of them are important.

January 2, 2012 - Interactive Charts are added to Stock Analyzer.

In the first 2012 update we added interactive charts to the Stock Analyzer (Interactive Charts section). Just move your mouse pointer from day to day and you will see all major numbers for the day, such as open/close price, major moving averages and volume. It also supports a longer term chart history and automatically switches to "weekly prices" if you select date range longer than 6 month.
On top of that, we added some basic explanation of the chart. Of course, this is not an expert system yet, but at least something for a newbie. By the way, if you think that something is missing, please, let us know and we will improve the system.
For those who think those bar charts available for financial numbers is not enough, we also added charts for yearly and quarterly statements right in the "Business Summary" section. Just a quick look will give you a sense if a business is growing or not.

In order to give financial score a bit of a tolerance, stock2own introduced a Growth Grade.
Growth Grade is based on historical growth rates. It weights each growth rate depending on financial metric (equity, sales, ROIC, ...) and year, using stock2own proprietary formula. Growth Grade also is a decimal value between 0 and 100, where 100 is a greatest grade.
Growth Grade is less strict than Financial Score. For example, if 10 year ago Equity growth of a business was negative, company will get "bad" rating, simply because there is a red cell in a Growth Rates table. At the same time, Growth Grade algorithm recognizes that negative growth happened only once and long time ago and overall grade may still be pretty high. So, pay attention to both Financial Score and Growth Grade values.

Two new charts have been added to Relative Strength section of a Technical Indicators Chart. Now there are stock RSI, index RSI and Relative Strength of a stock versus Relative Strength of an index.
RSI for a stock gives investor an understanding of the stock trend, while RSI for an index shows current trend for the market as a whole. The third chart - Relative Strength of a stock versus index - shows how good a stock performs comparing to the market.
Stock2own.com automatically selects an appropriate index to compare with from 3 major indexes depends on a stock's country of trade:
- US and Canada: S&P 500 Index
- Asia: Nikkei 225
- Europe: FTSE 100 Index
