Hello Everyone! My name is Pkount from Canada.
I have been really enjoying this site. I am new to trading. I have been playing a few simulators over the past number of months with varying degrees of success. My plan is to start "real world" trading at the beginning of May. I have yet to choose an on-line broker. I understand that there is a lot of experience within this community. I was hoping that I could get some recommendations for On-Line brokers in Canada. Any suggestions? Any that I should stay away from? Thanks in advance.

Online Brokers

Pkount welcome to stock2own!

There is an old discussion about brokerage firms in S2O forum (you can find it using search page):

The posts there are rather old, but, I just reviewed them and they seems to be still valid. TD Ameritrade is my favorite because of the trading platform they have. TD Ameritrade is not the cheapest brokerage, but they have probably the best tools on the market. Good thing is, you do not even have to open account with them - just register and they will allow you to install their trading app and play with it in a paper money portfolio. This is a good way to practice... Here is the link (you need thinkorswim):

I do believe they will allow you to trade Canadian securities as well as US.
